Welcome to the Brussels Yaegaki-Kai

The Brussels Yaegaki Kai is an Iaido (居合道) dojo located in Brussels (Uccle) Belgium. We hope that this website will promote the development of Iaido. A Japanese martial art coming directly from the samurai-time.

The Brussels Yaegaki Kai - Iaido Club Ucclois is an affiliate of the All Belgium Kendo Federation (ABKF), which itself is part of the International Kendo Federation (IKF). Membership in the Brussels Yaegaki Kai dojo is open to anyone interested in learning Iaido and all skill levels are welcome. View our training hours page.

Summer time … Seminar time …

Summer is generally a period of sunny holiday, relaxing on the beach with a cocktail *Slurp*. Well maybe in July but August is for some of us the kickoff of a new iaido season starting with a bunch of seminars with 2 majors on our list: the ABKF Summer seminar and the NKR seminar in Eindhoven both leaded by a Japanese delegation. Of course other seminars are also organized in August but our ubiquity and wallet duplication ninja talent are not yet powerful enough to go all the place we would like to …

The first one on the august calendar was the NKR seminar. This year we had to opportunity to participate on the Wednesday lesson and follow the delegation composed of Ishido sensei, Yoshimura sensei and Sooji sensei backed up with the helpful translation of Andy Watson.

Hakone taikai – 8th dan favorites

A few post ago I wrote that during our last trip we made some shopping just before departure. In our shopping bag there was a series of DVD edited by Hertz-International. It has been some years now that I was looking for the Hakone taikai DVDs and I was very happy to find them at a stand next to the Butokuden.

BIC 2010

The Belgian Iaido Championship 2010 took place this Sunday 16/05/10 10:00->17:30 at the Palais du Midi in Brussels. As Shinsain this year I was very happy with the Belgian Iaido level with good matches and thrilling finals from Mudan to Yondan. Finals competitor’s level was very close and decisions were hard to make. Finals were shortly followed by examination from ikkyu to sandan, 5th / 6th / 7th dan Embu and Awards. Congratulations to all the participants and organization staff …

Iaido shinsain no me – The eyes of the Iaido judges

In our last post 5 days in Japan I wrote that during our last trip in Japan we made some shopping just before departure. In our shopping bag there were a series of DVD but also a new book called “Iaido shinsahin no me”. This book edited by the “Kendo Jidai” publisher is a compilation of 15x ZNKR 8th Dan Hanshi sensei’s opinions on what are the important points needed for shinsa, embu and taikai. It is of course written in Japanese and will probably not be translated, so we decided to start a very rough translation of some parts. The book is separated into fifteen parts, one for each sensei and each part separated into a 2 points and three chapters …
