Welcome to the Brussels Yaegaki-Kai

The Brussels Yaegaki Kai is an Iaido (居合道) dojo located in Brussels (Uccle) Belgium. We hope that this website will promote the development of Iaido. A Japanese martial art coming directly from the samurai-time.

The Brussels Yaegaki Kai - Iaido Club Ucclois is an affiliate of the All Belgium Kendo Federation (ABKF), which itself is part of the International Kendo Federation (IKF). Membership in the Brussels Yaegaki Kai dojo is open to anyone interested in learning Iaido and all skill levels are welcome. View our training hours page.

Snake year 2013The Brussels Yaegaki-Kai wish you all a happy new year 2013 – Akemashite omedeto gozaimasu – May the year of the Snake (Hebi – 蛇) bring you good health, happiness and success. For all of us budō addicts we wish you a lot of intensive Renshu followed by relaxing dai ni dojo “second dojo”, make a lot of new friends through practice and have fun in your day to day life.

19th EIC 2012 – Stevenage

Belgian Team - European Iaido Championships 2012Great results for the Belgian Team at the 19th European Iaido Championships 2012 in Stevenage !!!

A rewarding event including one day seminar and two days of competition with more than 180 participants. Everybody in the team was very happy to meet again all European Iaido friends under a northern (even for a few minutes “snowy”) climate. Japanese delegation was this year composed of Kusama sensei, Aoki sensei and Kamikokuryo sensei all 8th dan Hanshi.

Intense individual and team competition ended with great results: 2x Gold, 3x Bronze medals and the Silver medals for the Team competition.

Your first nukitsuke reflects your training years

Iaido season started very well with as usual a great ABKF Summer seminar. While posting a small resume I discovered an unpublished article draft started in 2011 so I decided to finish it and am posting it now. The topic being: How are the high graded sensei judging a performance and what are they looking at ? Technical mistakes or simply put the non respect of the points written in the ZKR Iaido booklet is already a very bad start. I suppose everybody will agree so let’s postulate those points are respected. Then what are the other aspects judges may look at ? 11th ABKF Summer Koryu Seminar

The 11th Edition of the ABKF Koryu Seminar was held this 24-25-26 august 2012. The seminar was organised as part of the ABKF Summer Seminar and was located in Louvain La Neuve, Belgium.

This edition was again a success thanks to the wonderful teachings of the Japanese sensei delegation composed of:

ODA K. – 8th Dan Hanshi – Eishin Ryu
KATSUMATA K. – 8th Dan Kyoshi – Tamiya Ryu
FURUICHI N. – 8th Dan Kyoshi – Muso Shinden Ryu
TSUCHIYA N. – 7th Dan Kyoshi – Eishin Ryu
YUKIE I. – 5th Dan – Muso Shinden Ryu

This year the seminar gathered more than ninety practioners from different countries including: Belgium, Greece, France, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Jordania …
